About IPMMI - IMDIR
BACKGROUND :

The industry catering to the machinery requirements of “package producing” and “package user” industries is not very 9old in the country. The Indian industry has been by and large dependent on imports and also constrained by the level of technology. This has raised eyebrows as possible reasons that had affected the growth of the packaging sector in as much as dependence on external resources could not satisfy the optimum needs of the domestic productivity needs and give the best and right performance with respect to domestic technology needs and being compatible to the domestically available packaging materials.

The decade of 1970s however witnessed an encouraging development with the engineering skill in the country initiating a positive step to bridge the much felt gap by venturing into design and development and commercial production of various types of packaging machineries and related ancillaries. It is obvious that the domestic capabilities are in a much better and advantageous position to understand what the domestic industry needs and direct their efforts to “make and give” a “satisfaction” and significantly at an optimal cost. This is evidenced from the growing acceptance of the domestic capability and increasing demands from overseas.

The foregoing is a clear testimony of the innovative capability, clear understanding and converting the same into practical acceptance-interestingly at all levels of technologies- an ever important factor for a developing economy like India where the industry is spread from cottage level to highly sophisticated one.

RESULTANT :
The "resultant benefit" is requirements from within, import substitution, savings in precious foreign exchange and equally importantly an export potential and carving a niche in the capital goods development and exports. The machinery design and development sector also has been able to keep pace with the dynamic needs of the packaging industry and measure up to the development of modern and sophisticated demands be it manual, engineering, electronic, mechanical or pc controlled. This is evidenced from the growing acceptance of the domestic capability and increasing demands from overseas.
The foregoing is a clear testimony of the innovative capability, clear understanding and converting the same into practical acceptance - interestingly at all levels of technologies - an ever important factor for a developing economy like India where the industry is spread from cottage level to highly sophisticated one.
THE MACHINERY SECTOR :
The packaging machinery sector has a direct role in every segment of the packaging industry from the basic material manufacturer to package form converter to package decorator to product packer to ancillary functions like capping, labeling, coding, marking beside off and online inspection. Irrespective of reverse engineering or technology adoption, the machinery manufacturing sector has come a long way establishing a niche for themselves, creating a proven record of reliability. The significance lies in the dependence of sound technology and service capability.
THE USER SECTOR :
The recipient of the machinery depends on the lines of their operation. Basically they include the packaging material manufacturing and conversion, to actual packaging line operation to various ancillary operations and varying quality inspections. The user of the machinery always has been the inspiration and source to the ultimate M/C manufacturers. They help in identifying the specific needs.
THE RECOGNITION :
The recognition by IPMMI is instituted for uniqueness of the design and development in any of the category of packaging machinery and systems. The uniqueness could relate to functional, operational, ecological, environmental, cost advantage etc. This may relate to an individual function or combined functions or the machinery and system in its totality.
ELIGIBILITY :
The development should be exclusive and indigenously developed and commercially viable. The entrant should certify the same and full ownership.
